Happy New Year

January 1, 2010. Has a great ring to it doesn't it? We rang the new year in quite nicely with a near full house, hopefully a harbinger of things ahead. Politics have settled down so the island is regaining it's pace and it's tourists. Many of our guests have toured the new Cocolobo Lodges and have been very impressed with what they have seen. There will be pictures posted soon...(I need to find techie first as this is way beyond my skills apparently!) We'll also post photos of our new entryway lighting, which is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Julio Galindo will be taking over mayoral duties late in January and we are hopeful as he has many tourist based interests here on the island so knows the effects of decisions that are made regarding tourism.

End of October Already

October 2009...............Well, what an interesting time to be on Roatan. There's just never a dull moment! We've thrived despite earthquakes, bees, government takeovers and rainy days whilst trying to paint the pool. Guests continue to come and enjoy our beautiful resort while diving and snorkelling and Caribbean sunset watching by our pool.

We've taken the opportunity of the slower season to tackle jobs like refinishing louvered doors, watersealing floors and decks, attaching eaves troughing (gutters for the non-Canadian folks), tree trimming and a multitude of general repairs and refurbishings.
Internet continues to be a tad sketchy as is the power situation so we plod along as best we can and enjoy the quiet that having no power brings.
Christmas bookings are looking great and January bookings also so we have much to look forward to. We're excited about returning guests and some large groups that are booking with us.The new Lodges look fabulous and have drawn interest with local real estate agents. What a great idea for a family to purchase one and use it as a family base for vacations together!
Roatan boasts a new mall, soon to be opened new cruise ship dock and a beautiful new golf course with the front 9 holes to be opened by Christmas...things are looking up!

More flights

Just an update on increased travel options to and from Roatan - all news according to the Bay Islands Voice:

Skyservice has now settled on Friday as its direct flight to Roatan from Toronto.

Iberojet are planning a direct flight from Madrid to Roatan.

Blue Panorama are to add a weekly charter from Rome to the exisitng one from Milan.

Cayman Airways may soon start flying to Roatan which would also like Roatan to Belize.
